Governor John Bel Edwards and Amazon announced today that the company will build its first Louisiana Fulfillment Center in Lafayette Parish, in the city of Carencro. Located at the former Evangeline Downs site in C Karencro, near the intersection of Interstates 10 and 49, the company will provide optimal access to the Louisiana market and create more than 1,000 jobs.
The new fulfillment center is part of more than $250 million that Amazon has already invested in the state since 2010. Amazon ranks Louisiana as the state with the highest annual growth rate of any US state in its annual ranking of the top 50 states for economic development.
Louisiana Economic Development estimates that the project will create 982 new indirect jobs in the city of Lafayette and the surrounding region, as well as 1,000 direct jobs. By 2019, LED has attracted more than $1.5 billion in direct and indirect investment in Louisiana, which LED says represents an increase in jobs that will be sustained by the state's current annual growth rate of 2,500 jobs per year.
